Tiredness takes its toll
Listen George Schweigmann: “In Warns there was a first-aid post and someone said: “My boy, you must get off here. Your knee is bleeding, let’s just put a bandage on it.” So I went inside and took my pants off. There was a doctor there who looked at my knee and said: “Yes, that must be stitched”. Then he put two stitches in my flesh. How he did it, I don’t know, because the moment I sat on that bench, I saw a skating friend from Leeuwarden sitting there as well. He’d been unlucky too. So we just sat there asking “How are you?” and “How’s this” and “How ‘s that?” We thought it was great fun having so much to talk about. And that’s why I didn’t notice that I had been stitched, because we had so much to tell each other.” Photo: Competition skaters at Galamadammen Huge numbers of skaters giving up in Stavoren
