On February 29th we will discuss the documentary about geo-engineering. The question of whether geo-engineering can solve our climate crisis is a complex and debated topic.
While some say we should wait and see, others are taking matters into their own hands, from spraying polar ice to releasing sulphur dioxide balloons. How much time do we have to cool the planet? And who gets to decide which techniques we choose? After all, what good is a technological fix if we don’t first restore nature on a large scale?
Stephane Kaas, director for VPRO Tegenlicht, travels on an exploration voyage to the American West Coast, the Arctic Circle, and the North Sea. Which practices should we restrict, which should we investigate, and where should we invest? This episode features Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, climate cowboys taking action, and scientists asking for a halt. We investigate through the oil industry’s CO2 capture efforts and meet with the Sami, the EU’s last indigenous people, whose way of existence is already under threat from climate change.
It’s time for a public debate!
